As fitness continues to be a huge passion of mine, and because I know that education on fitness and health is crucial, I wanted to make sure I highlighted all of the great work that is going on in New York City to encourage healthy lifestyles. There are dozens of 5k’s, marathons, and group workout events that occur every year in the city to get people excited about health and to promote worthy causes in need of funding in order to help those battling health struggles. New York City is known for hosting some of the world’s largest events, so when it comes to cultivating excitement over staying fit, NYC knows what they’re doing.


The events listed here cover a wide array of experience levels, so you don’t have to be a fitness expert to be able to take part. In fact, there are many charitable events that occur annually in the city that are strictly donation based. No matter how you’re looking to spread awareness and stay fit, there’s certainly something for everyone in NYC. Here are a few of the big events to keep in mind while planning your year of healthy living.


The W.E.L.L. Summit

This innovative summit promoting beauty, fitness, and overall wellness, brings together a panel of experts for 2 days of open discussions and advice on how to become your best self through focusing on your health. This is not your normal lecture-based conference – it’s a true celebration of wellness. This year’s summit will run from November 3rd-4th, and tickets are on sale now.


TCS Marathon

While there is certainly no shortage of marathons in the New York City area, this popular event allows runners to sign up in support of a program near and dear to my heart: the American Diabetes Association. Runners can sign up to run on behalf of the cause of their choice in this friendly event that reaches thousands of people. This event is also held in November, but sign up soon to guarantee a spot!


Fitbit Local New York

If you love your fitbit and want to celebrate – or show off – your new found fitness with a health event in an open and creative environment, this is the event for you. Fitbit Local New York hosts monthly workouts completely free of charge to the public, incorporating kick-boxing and boot camp exercises. This year’s big event, held on June 16th, was only an hour long and participants were entered for a free Fitbit. This is what we call a win-win.


These unique health events are part of what makes the culture of NYC so inviting.
